Within the freight forwarding and customs brokerage industry, this is a key role, taking responsibility for facilitating entry of goods into Australia. It’s a fast-paced role with lots of responsibility and suits people who can think on their feet, have good attention to detail, good interpersonal and problem-solving skills, and the ability to deal with paperwork. It involves working within state, national and international parameters, and double-checking details. Depending on the company, this may cover air, sea, rail or road freight, or combinations, and may be combined with export operations, particularly in smaller companies.
People in this position are expected to have undertaken some formal study towards attaining their Customs Brokers licence, and will have certification in areas such as Dangerous Goods, Security and Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare.
