The term ‘diversity’ refers to many demographic variables including inherent differences such as gender, age, cultural and linguistic background, sexual orientation, intellectual and/or physical ability. Diversity also extends to religious beliefs, socio-economic status, educational background and family responsibilities.

Supporting workplace diversity involves creating an inclusive environment that values and respects employee’s individual differences and the varied experience and points of view they offer. It also requires being supportive of the specific challenges faced by some employee groups.
