Unique Student Identifier (USI)

Any person undertaking nationally recognised training with an RTO since the start of the New Year is advised that they must obtain a Unique Student Identifier before receiving their qualification. The USI is a component of the VET Reform Agenda and is designed to assist with the continued development of transparency in the VET sector.

The Unique Student Identifier is a reference number made up of numbers and letters that gives students access to their USI account. An individual's USI account is linked to the National Vocational Education and Training (VET) Data Collection allowing an individual to see all of their training results from all providers including all completed training units and qualifications.

The USI will make it easier for students to find and collate their VET achievements into a single authenticated transcript which can be accessed for free online. It will also ensure that students' VET records are not lost. For industry it will also mean less time in waiting for job applicants to confirm their nationally recognised training qualifications.

Any person involved in this training will need to apply for their unique code through www.usi.gov.au if it not arranged by the students current RTO with their permission.
