The Transport and Logistics (T&L) industry in Australia faces a serious challenge in terms of attracting and retaining enough skilled workers to meet a projected tripling of the national freight task by 2050.

The current industry age profile is heavily skewed towards near retirees, and the community views jobs within the industry in a negative light. In a fiercely competitive job market with the national unemployment rate at approximately 5%, significant efforts must be put into attracting new staff, and retaining those already skilled if the Australian industry is to remain globally competitive.

Initially established in 2006, LINC was an innovative resource, only available to SA. In 2011, SA Minister for Transport the Hon. Patrick Conlon MP relaunched the redeveloped LINC as a national resource with all states participating and supporting the initiative.
