Every consumer decision you make is underpinned by freight transport: plane, train, ship, truck or pipeline. Consumer demand for products causes a “derived demand” for transport services, to actually deliver the products to the consumers.
There is also a growing industry and community awareness regarding environmental issues, including the impact that transport and logistics operations can have on the community and society.
Understanding the impacts that the industry has is a detailed process. The following information, publications and links are provided to give business, government and the community a snapshot of freight transport, how it operates, what the costs are and how it supports our way of life in Australia.
