The Tasmanian rail network allows for the effective and efficient transport of bulk commodities for use in Tasmania and for export and import to mainland Australia and overseas.

Freight transported using Tasmania’s rail network includes bulk mineral concentrates, coal, paper and paper making product, as well as containerised freight.

Containerised freight is transported by rail 7 days a week between Burnie and Hobart, and moves goods such as zinc ingots, food products, manufactured goods, grains, tank liquids, and more.
