Air transport is primarily used for passengers and for moving high value, highly perishable goods to market. It provides the means to transport extremely lucrative products such as live lobster to international markets.

The sector represents only approximately 0.2% of Australia’s international freight task, however, it represents around 14.3% of the value.

Victoria’s primary air exports by volume are meat, fruit, vegetables and dairy, while medical equipment, x-ray parts and other electrical equipment top the list when it comes to highest value exports.

Primary air imports by volume are consumer electronic goods, clothes and some foodstuffs, while pharmaceuticals, clothes and helicopters are the top imports by value.
