Air

Western Australia is a vast state with one major city, Perth. Perth airport is one of five major ‘gateway’ airports to Australia.  It accommodates international, interstate and intrastate air services. 

There are great distances between smaller centres of population, so aviation is essential in keeping communities and businesses connected and operating. The resources sector especially relies heavily on aviation.  Passenger numbers to regional centres are low, so regulated air services are offered through a competitive tender process at regular intervals.

The importance of aviation in Western Australia has been recognised with the Department of Transport providing funds to support the upgrade of airport infrastructure in regional and remote areas through the Regional Airports Development Scheme (RADS).
